2015 Save Room for Love

How much room our favorite things hold in our lives is always changing. New loves come and go. Capturing a few in their moment and proportion within us creates a small time capsule of our loves.

Save Room for Love showcases a sampling of the many small loves we cherish in our lives. This shadow box construction begins with proportion: how much space should each element own? How are they relative to each other? A 15-stick Slim Pack™ of Wrigley’s™ Big Red® gum commands the largest area of “love” and is held in place with ribbon. Five other compartments are built around it. The nest egg of “promise”, crayons of “creativity”, and silk flowers of “natural growth and beauty” inserts helped determine the size of their compartments and are glued in place. “Family” and “beloved friends” (my parrots of course) are designed to fit the remaining spaces. They are printed, trimmed, and mounted on card stock lifts and in diorama layers. Card stock backs the shadow box.
